This strategic shift follows organizational reforms at the publicly-funded organization, including the departure of its former chief executive last month after both employee protests and ministerial calls for comprehensive reform.

Growing Cybersecurity Concerns

The new mission comes amid growing concern about the nation's susceptibility to digital service failures and digital assaults.

Operational Restructuring

The institute's chair, a former Amazon UK boss, confirmed that multiple research initiatives at the organization with 440 employees have been closed, spun out or completed because they aren't consistent with the new direction.

The institute has faced workplace difficulties since last year as employees objected against restructuring, culminating in a group of employees submitting a formal grievance to the proper supervisory commission.

The institute's leadership stated that these employee allegations were independently investigated by a neutral third party that found them to have no substance.

The organization will also target measurable pollution decreases in transport systems, production methods and essential systems.

In the healthcare industry, the focus will be on creating digital twins of cardiac organs, representing a frontline of personalized AI-enabled medicine that could better therapeutic procedures and treatment results for seriously ill heart patients.
