Importantly, all save data earned within this demo can be transferred directly into the complete game upon its subsequent launch.

More Than a Simple Re-release: The Thorough Overhaul

This title is a ground-up reimagining of the landmark year 2000 RPG, initially known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct step away from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the previously released HD-2D versions, this remake adopts a charming 3D visual presentation. Locales are designed to resemble detailed miniature worlds, with protagonists sporting a whimsical chibi-esque look.

"Taking into account the previous version, the main quest was remained exceptionally lengthy. Consequently, the team reached a conclusion that we wanted to tighten the story, [and] make this experience for contemporary players."

Major Mechanical Enhancements & Modernizations

Square Enix have added a host of changes to streamline the classic gameplay loop. These include:

  • Expedited Field Encounters: Taking a cue from modern RPGs, low-level enemies can now be dispatched directly on the field eliminating the need for entering a full turn-based battle screen.
  • Adjustable Combat Speed: Gamers have the option to speed up combat animations to rapidly get past simpler fights.
  • New Vocation Mechanics: One brand new vocation was added for this remake. Additionally, party members gain the option to master a secondary job, greatly enhancing customization options.

These alterations seek to address a key the 2000 title's most noted points of feedback: its considerable playtime. That initial storyline was known to require over 100 hours to see through. The reimagined version was expressly reworked to enhance flow and reduce perceived bloat.
