Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait the full month. A free-to-play demo version is set to become available on Jan. 7, providing a substantial look into the game's beginning segments. Importantly, all save data earned within this demo can be transferred directly into the complete game upon its subsequent launch.
This title is a ground-up reimagining of the landmark year 2000 RPG, initially known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct step away from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the previously released HD-2D versions, this remake adopts a charming 3D visual presentation. Locales are designed to resemble detailed miniature worlds, with protagonists sporting a whimsical chibi-esque look.

Square Enix have added a host of changes to streamline the classic gameplay loop. These include:
These alterations seek to address a key the 2000 title's most noted points of feedback: its considerable playtime. That initial storyline was known to require over 100 hours to see through. The reimagined version was expressly reworked to enhance flow and reduce perceived bloat.
Curious JRPG fans can begin exploring the reimagined world of DQ7 firsthand when the free demo goes live on Jan. 7. The full adventure, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be set to release on Feb. 5, 2026. The title will be available on a wide range of platforms, including Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X.
