After a definitive runoff election, hardline politician José Antonio Kast has won the presidential office in Chile.

A Resounding Triumph

After more than 99% of polling stations reporting, Kast garnered 58.17% of the votes, defeating leftist former minister Jeannette Jara, who earned 41.83%.

This marks Kast's third attempt at the presidency, having previously been beaten by the sitting president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 second round.

Campaign Focused On Law and Order and Immigration

Recognized for his unwavering Catholic views and regard for the rule of former leader Augusto Pinochet, Kast's platform was mostly centered on promises to combat increasing violence and radically restrict migration.

Despite his clear popular vote triumph, Kast does not have an clear majority in Congress, not in the Chamber of Deputies nor the Senate, even when various conservative parties are counted together.
