It has been confirmed that fan-favorite stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, considering the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.
This represents the sixth installment in the global Hunger Games franchise.
Sunrise on the Reaping is based upon a 2025 novel by author Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second film set before the original story after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. For this project is Francis Lawrence, who was behind the majority of the previous films in the series.
The film's narrative are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, later known as Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the deadly 50th Hunger Games.
