Liverpool's Star Extends Regret to Squad, Says Curtis Jones

The Liverpool midfielder has shared that the Egyptian forward said sorry to the group of players in the wake of the controversy from his public comments.

He was omitted from a key Champions League match following making accusations and claiming his relationship with manager had soured.

“He speaks for himself and he can say his own stuff,” the midfielder said. “He said sorry to the group and was like: ‘If I’ve affected anybody, I'm sorry.’”

The manager has chosen not to comment publicly on whether he got an explanation from the player.

Looking Ahead

The player stated that the dressing room atmosphere remained positive. “He was his usual self, he had a big smile on his face and it was business as usual,” the midfielder explained.

He also suggested that a teammate fighting for a place is preferable. “It's clear there are specific approaches you can go about things,” he said. “But if a lad’s fine to just sit out, then I think that’s concerning.”

On-Field Response

Liverpool's form have been impressive in the games following the interview fallout. He feels the outburst were not designed to destabilise the squad.

“When there’s been any sort of anger, the source has been from a desire to win,” he finished. “We’re past that now and we’re gelling well as a team, playing well and starting to win games.”
