Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Derogatory Chants Targeting Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side only half a year after leading derogatory taunts aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a contract with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell with Leeds was ended through agreement this past summer.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading insulting songs about Wilder during the club’s success festivities in April. Currently, the former England player is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to rescue the team he loves out of the bottom places.

Previous Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager

The pair had a past before Leeds won promotion back to the top flight last season and United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

Everything seems to have been resolved with United, the league's least productive attack, in desperate need of a boost in attack and Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.

The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I’ve no issue whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! But I valued and respected him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion with him and he is a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Struggles

The forward made 18 appearances for Leeds last season but the ex- Forest, Chelsea FC & Middlesbrough player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
