Spurs Manager Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Real Fans'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on Frank

Spurs fans who booed keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Tottenham fans" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League at home loss of 2025.

But the main talking point was the visitors' next goal when the keeper gave away possession far outside his area.

He came out to deal with a long ball and took the ball towards the sideline.

But, instead of booting it out of play, the Italian spun and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by King.

King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the goal from the sideline measured at 36.6 yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball came to the keeper again, some Spurs fans jeered him.

Spurs were booed off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.

A particular of those booing episodes truly angered Frank.

"I heard a few of our supporters apparently jeered the incident and booed after, which, in my view is totally unjustifiable," the Dane commented regarding the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals cannot be true Tottenham fans that do that. Fair enough booing following the match, fine, but when we are playing, we are supporting one another, we are behind one another going forward."

Kenny Tete had handed Fulham a fourth-minute lead before Harry Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Spurs in an better second period showing.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second goal was "completely preventable".

"I do appreciate the supporters' frustration," Hart added. "I am aware the role the keeper is playing. He is a great squad member, he's a true figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"The keeper was heavily involved in what turned out to be the decisive score."

'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Match

Italy international the keeper is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

The 29-year-old said after the game that he had to accept the feedback.

"The second score was a error of mine, I accept responsibility for it," he commented.

"My aim was to kick the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an more difficult mountain to climb."

He stated being booed "comes with the game".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team can't be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.

"It is on us to stay more calm, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and poise to overturn outcomes. Today is a bad loss and it is hard to take."

'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Line'

Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an simple goal for Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the second most distant Premier League score of the season – following Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally also occurred on the same day.

Wilson said he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open net to target.

Ten moments elapsed between Vicario exiting of his box and Wilson striking – which was 5 seconds after the kick.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the box for a long time," he said.

"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the line. When none of them defended the net, my interest lit up somewhat.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a little extra time. After that it was all about trying to make the correct contact and get it towards goal. I felt a positive feeling, the moment it came off my boot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - the Manager

While Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to extend their home ground woes.

This was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the league, a shared team statistic matching 1994 and 2003.

The side still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and title holders the Reds to come prior to the end of the season.

Just a single of those victories have occurred after Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"When you're down 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the next is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result leaves us in a place where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a unique story, this game we lost in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can use to develop."

Tottenham have lost 4 straight at home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are recording nine point five attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their poorest rates on record in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Former Cottagers midfielder Murphy stated that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He must accept the stick," the pundit said. "He's taken a prestigious job at a huge team with massive expectation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
