Almost 55,000 households have reportedly been affected by the storms, with their possessions and dwellings destroyed.

Heavy precipitation over the past week have worsened the already dire situation of the many hundreds of thousands of displaced Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as stated by relief groups.

"Horrendous" Conditions Brings Grave Threats

A official characterized the weather overnight as "horrendous", with precipitation so heavy that up to 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the streets.

"The recent weather was really terrible for the people. The heavy rains were so strong... And the gales were so strong," said the representative.

Officials express grave concern that children living in makeshift shelters in soaked attire will succumb to hypothermia and additional ailments.

Fatalities and Extensive Loss

Health authorities have stated that one baby has passed away from hypothermia and a minimum of 11 other people have lost their lives in structural failures due to the harsh conditions.

Further statements indicate a greater fatality count. Spokespeople said that several residential buildings had fully given way and scores had sustained partial collapse.

  • Nearly 55,000 families harmed by flooding.
  • More than 40 official safe spaces severely flooded.
  • Many people forced to find new shelter.

Aid Distribution Deemed Insufficient

Agencies have increased shipments of tents, warm covers and clothing following the truce started, but they stress there is continues to be not enough aid entering.

"Agencies are striving constantly to provide that assistance and to hand it out, but the size of the requirements is so vast that we still have a great number of people and minors who are truly enduring hardship every night," warned one spokesperson.

Future Challenges and Agreement Terms

The second phase of the agreement includes arrangements for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the withdrawal of military forces, and other terms.

Relief organizations have underscored the imperative for "expanded and ongoing aid to meet immediate and long-term requirements."

The hostilities was sparked by an attack in October 2023. Following campaigns have resulted in a high number of casualties in the area, based on health ministry figures.
